This is quite nice. The head angle is perfect, and the background is relatively interesting. Working with softer light would have reduced the contrast which in this case would have been a plus. Perfect exposure and sharp. You made the best possible image from where you were.

Very nice and stately looking egret with a nice touch of habitat for the BG. As Artie said...you've done well given the light and still had some nice detail. A very pleasing image.

Douglas, nice job working with the conditions. Now give it a try at dawn or close to sunset and see how you can work with the improved light. Good luck!

Thanks to all for your helpful comments and suggestions. The light was harsh, but the pose and habitat was so typical for the specie that I hoped the image would look fairly natural.
