A good British summer style shot there Jon!

I like to see something different, and this makes a nice change from the pristine birds we normally like to shoot. Minor crit from me would be to clone out the bait, but otherwise I like it a lot. I take it you just flipped the perch from the nuthatch shot?

Mike

Hi Mike yep just flipped the perch. I am kicking myself now that bait is indeed a part of a peanut but it looks worse becasue there is a water droplet on it, I originally dismissed it as water - see the little white bit on the end that's water, i.e. not a peanut.

Interesting capture that works, good representation of a wet environment.

A very interesting capture that frames the bird beautifully and highlights the conditions. Were you in a hide or out enjoying your balmy English summer?

Wonderfully unique. TFS

That is one drenched woodpecker. Nice comp, colors and sharp detail.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, image taken from a hide in the back garden. The more I look at this the less I like it I think the colours are wrong.

Here is a reworked version, I have also tidied up the log a little.

Hi Jo, I think the RP is going the right way, love the rain and atmosphere contained in the image. The subject appears to be providing some excellent shooting material, keep the coming and hope you are making headway in your 'Holly Grail' of colour.

Jon I could not see a lot wrong with the OP but the RP just takes it up one IMHO ,love the wet bedraggled look and a great pose you have captured, right up my street.

Keith.

Keith I think the colours are far too vivid in the original.

Yes you are right Jon on a second look the bg certainly does look a bit strong and by toning it down as made the bird pop a bit more.
