Hi all,

Woodpecker taken a feeder set up a couple weeks back. Slight crop, NR. Had to downsize a decent amount to get under the 600 Kb so not sure if that's impacted detail / the background.

Camera: Nikon D500
Lens: 200-500 at 450mm
Specs: 1/640 f/5.6 ISO 2500.

Thanks for looking and commenting on prior posts!

nice pose and details. the shooting angle is great and not steep as we often see with the woodies, I like the moss on the tree trunk too. I'd put a bit more space below and subtract from the space above

Hi Alex, nice bird, the black and whites look good on my display. I like the old craggy perch with the Lichens. I think Ari's suggestion is a good one with less above and more below if you have it. Thank you for viewing.

Good solid image of this female( hairy or downy ?) woodpecker.
My first thought when I opened the image up was that you had too much space above.
IQ excellent and exposure on the whites and blacks look great.

Nice looking shot Alex. Great perch and details are nice. Agree re the composition. And this is a Downy, note the beak that is smaller than the head.

Great capture of this beauty, Alex. Very nice handling of the blacks and whites. Couldn't ask for a better perch or background. Agree with suggested cropping.

Classic woodpecker pose. Nice to see the kick stand tail. The background is great. Perch is nice as well.

Good looking female against a nice BG. The perch is quite beautiful - I'd try a version with less sharpening on it though (or none at all). I say this because the nature of the fine details on that perch make it look sharper than the bird, even though I know it is not.

Solid frame for sure!! One of your best IMO. Everything is perfect. I agree with the comp suggestions but looks nice as is too. Well done Alex

I like everything about this excellent and technically perfect image but for the design. I'd crop from the left and from above to get a lot closer to 2X3. With maybe a sliver off the right to that end.

Thanks all, much appreciated. I'll take a look at the crop as I do have more below. Daniel, great point about the sharpening, I hadn't thought of that. I was pretty happy when I found a couple of these perches with a lot of lichen / moss on them, and was thrilled when the birds cooperated. Thanks again all, best,
