Yes, that is the DoF in action :)
Unfortunately the lighting situation was bad and I was trying to shoot Falcons wide open when these pelicans showed up and I didn’t react fast enough to stop down and so ended up with only the front one being in sharp focus.

Great overcast light, and I like the background a lot. I think you might have enough detail in the rear birds nearest wing and body to have another round of sharpening. I might also give them a bit more room on the right to fly into, if you have it.

Oh how I would love for the OOF bird to be in focus, that would make so much difference to the image.

I'd love more room above and right. Front bird looks great, and the back bird has great placement relative to the front one. DOF would have been really tough to achieve with lots of distance between the two, but I still wish the far one was sharper. I love the wavy BG - beautiful.

Hi Kambiz, IMO this is not a string image, the front one has already passed you and the rear one is OOF.
