This was taken last week near my house. I added some canvas in front of the bird. Hope you enjoy the image.

Jim:
Nice dorsal view, with those dangling yellow feet, nicely exposed. The linear pattern in the water gives the impression of speed.

Well done on capturing this Jim....Love the dorsal view, the flight pose looks good. I may try sharpening the bird just a little to give it a wee bit more pop.

Another nice one, Jim. Great dorsal look, and beautiful BG. This one doesn't look quite as sharp as the other; maybe a tad more sharpening as Will suggests. And I hesitate to ask because of your lakefront experience with these guys, but I would have called this a Lesser Yellowlegs. Maybe its the angle.

Thanks Bill you might be right. Even though I have lake experience I am not too good with shorebird ID. Is it the length of the legs that is visible under the tail that makes you lean towards a lesser?

Thanks for the comments and suggestions. I will give it another round of sharpening and see how it looks.

For me it's the length of the bill. If it's shorter than the depth of the head its a Lesser; if it's longer than the head it's a Greater. [I should note that your first Yellowlegs image looked clearly like a Greater; so if this is the same bird, I'm all wet.]

Lesser. Take it to the bank. The unicolored bill length is equal to the skull depth. Greater broader-based and would have a two-toned bill which is 1.5x as long as the skull is wide.

Thanks Bill and Dorian for helping me learn the difference between the lesser and greater, much appreciated.
Hopefully a moderator can change the title to a lesser.

A beautiful flight shot, with nice dorsal view, good wing position and BG. Agree to another round of sharpening.
