This image was taken whilst sitting on the roof of our unmoored and drifting boat at the "new" site of Gondikwa Heronry in the Okavango Delta, on 27th December 2010.

Ken, I have never seen these guys sitting in a tree, always wading in water looking for their next meal. The angle works for me, as he is against a lovely sky BG. The pink on the wing shows off his breeding colours. Maybe a bit tight at the bottom.

This is one brilliant closeup at 105mm . The exposure is spot on and the lovely sky , and the reds and yellows on the bird offer a lovely contrast which make the image very interesting !!

Ken:

He is looking very sweet ( for a stork that is :S3:) and the clouds give a nice sense of depth to the image.

Good DOF, not easy with this long bill and body!

The sky looks really saturated, perhaps the air is esp. clear there.

Cheers

Thanks everybody for your kind comments, it is remarkable what a little sunlight (in the right direction) can do, it was amazingly windy though.

Randy,

The sky can appear to be "unrealistically" blue in Africa, and I think in this one the clouds bring it out even more
