B&H just informed me that they are taking pre-orders for the new Canon 5D models.

I want one but will wait to make sure there are no bugs in the first production run plus I need to figure out if upgrading my iMac ram will be enought to handle the files or if I need to replace it.

good call Don to wait for any potential bugs but this one is so tempting I might bite the bullet and pre-order. They usually don't mess up with the 5D/1D series.

Ever since the 1DmkIII they have had very little issues with their releases unlike their competitors. If this camera produces the files I think it will I will not sit on the sidelines long.

I think the R model will be more popular among photographers with the regular model maybe better for video applications.

Pricing is competitive too when the 5D3 came out it was $3500, and the D810 sells for around $3300 now....

Hi Guys, do you have any predictions/thoughts on how this camera might fare against the Pentax 645Z (MF) for landscape use? The Pentax is almost 3 times the price, but I wonder how well they will compare with discernible differences you can see on the print...? Looking forward to that comparison when it happens...

I would hold judgement until I get one and use it in the field but the (JPEG) samples so far look promising. Canon have some great lenses to go with this body too and it's a lot lighter than your typical MF setup if that matters.

Thanks for commenting Arash. Weight does not worry me too much, I am still reasonably fit & strong. Will wait until there is a bit of public comment available from happy users however. I have canon gear now and don't really want to or can afford to change brands without good reason.

645Z is still the king for landscape, etc

And the Nikon D810 did better than the canon in noise at high ISO - both against against a preproduction 5DS-R body with macro lens on macro subject
At ISO 6400, the 645z is just warming up to noise (from personal experience)

Although these are just in-camera JPEG files, I would hold judgement until we can see the RAW files to evaluate noise and detail.

You missed the larger images - they had to delete at Canon's request.
While impressive, the 810 and 645z beat them on these images as well.
But I do agree - this was only a preproduction beta camera. no raws were seen.
But I do like the images from my 645Z. Identical sensor as the Blad, but cost and image quality has been shown to be better.

dpreview have posted RAW samples from 5DSR in comparison with D810 and the Pentax 645Z. The Canon files look great in comparison, easily beating nikon and matching the Pentax even with the non-optimal Adobe RAW converter. I suspect this camera will shine and beat the competition when used with DPP in competent hands.
