I took these today and thought they were in focus at the time. Any suggestions do I need to micro adjust? I had the lens propped up on a rock, shot with a 7d2 500mm f4 and 1.4 tc.
f/9 1/1000 sec iso 500 700mm

any suggestions appreciated!
thank you

Was focus point on the eye? The rock seems to be sharper, but very hard to tell for sure at this size. Can you post a similar close up crop of the rock?

Here is the 100% crop of the rock

As I suspected, the rock is much sharper than the sandpiper. There could be a number of factors, one being that your lens may be front-focussing and needing of micro adjustment. Are all your images coming out this way, or just once in a while? Was your focus point on the face?

Yea The focus point was on the eye, and yea most shots in the burst with the teleconverter come out that way. Without the tc I still have shots like this but never this bad. any recomendations for micro adjustment I was looking at lens align but its pricey. thanks for the help.

The sandpiper itself shows motion blur indeed, especially on the face I agree, but the image still looks front-focused on the rock, hence my suggestion.
