Hi folks ...
a different approach to the jumping Squirrel , even more difficult to capture ... I have to learn hard lessons with these guys . I have not been able to get consistent results when using AF with these jumping guys .
I do have no idea what I am doing wrong , tried all sorts of AF settings with both R3 and R6 II ... the AF was not able to follow the animals through the jump .
So next time I will try to prefocus half the jumping distance and then fire ... to hope for the best , LOL .

Canon EOS R6 II
RF 2,8 400 + 1,4 TC
Tripod

F 5,6 ; Iso 10.000 ; 1/3200 sec

Processed with DT 4.6.1 and PSCC 2024 ; quite a large crop for my circumstances to about 65 % of FF , the focus was not bang on the eyes and the DOF falls short ... so I monkeyed around to create some artificial sharpness .

Thanks for looking and commenting to my previous postings

Cheers Andreas

I think with these guys the answer is to prefocus manually at the high point of trajectory Your monkeying around seems to work well, eyes look good. If you manually prefocus you can probably afford to reduce your crop assuming flight path is repetitive.
Pleasing shot the ears and eyes and nose appear to be in good focus.

Hello Andreas,

I'd say not bad at all, given the conditions. I like the expression from the squirrel. Looks better in PS, maybe a tad noisy in the BG otherwise all good. Also, a bit more DoF would have been great.

I like the reds. And those ear tufts, too cute. Did you lure this little one with nuts? And did it land on your lap, LOL.

A fun image and I enjoyed viewing, thank you so much.

Kind regards,
