Brown hare (Lepus europaeus)

I got this shot in what is now our extended garden, the light was not in the ideal direction but it is fun to be able to get shots without travelling. Luckily he was close enough, needless to say when the action happened the hares were more distant, but there's always another day.

Difficult lighting conditions as you yourself stated in your intro. Pose is nice and I like the sense of movement with one front leg outstretched and the other off the ground. Perhaps a tad more punch on the hare's coat would be good, I do not see those chaps around here so unsure about the colour ( to me it looks a bit on the yellow side).

A few issues I would like to mention if I may, one is composition (subject right in the middle of the frame), the bright grass (HL a bit much but you could tame those a bit in PP), and lastly, the face does not look very sharp despite the 1/4000s (is it possible the FP might be on the body and not on the eye where it should be?)

Hi Jon ... nice movement captured of the Hare , I do like the pose .
Under the given circumstances you did well with the tones and the colors , made the most out of it .
Would agree with Gabriela about the central placement , not ideal IMHO.
To me the head does look as sharp as the rest of the body ... albeit I would agree it could be sharper . Maybe a larger crop or heat haze did play a role here .

Thanks Gabriela and Andreas, I agree with your comments. The focal point was in the right place (I used animal ID) on refection I was too hasty in making the post - could/should have ben better. Heat haze is certainly a possibility it was sunny and not long previously there had been rain so not ideal for distance shooting.
