    Hello (again) from T&T

Awesome - nice to see the updated "you"!

    Cuckoo

I love this, and thanks for the repost that gives some much improved breathing room for the subject. The added vignette is very subtle, the way it should be if and when done. Great stuff Phill!

    Song Sparrow

Cute little female House Sparrow! Ideally you should try to go over way to your right and around the subject to get a better light angle (unless you were going for backlit, and also wait for a better head angle as it is looking away a bit here. Sharp details, and you got a decent background to...

    The Dancer

Hey Kurt, glad you posted for critique! We all started somewhere, and all strive to improve no matter our level - I wish there was a critique forum like this when I first started out! Firstly: good exposure - both the whites and the blacks look good, not always an easy task with such extremes...

    Hermit Thrush.

Thanks guys, and for the other question: they are common here in north-eastern North America during breeding season, but pretty much disappear from late October/early November-ish to late April as they migrate outta here for the winter months.

More help with cropping and/or removing distractions

I too would be interested in seeing the original uncropped image - it may very well look great in landscape, depending on how much distractions are in there and how much work is needed. I like Steve's repost, but think the blue water is too blue - somewhere between the two would work well IMO.

    Hello again, from Florida

Welcome back, Paul! Glad to see you here again.

Hello from Canada's west coast, British Columbia

Hey there Kurt, welcome to BPN! Careful with bird/wildlife photography as it can become addictive

Wild Turkey Squadron In The Rain.

A young family of Wild Turkeys were such fun to photograph this past summer. On this particular morning, they were cruising along a quiet street, so I lay flat on the shoulder and waited for them to come towards me. They walked along the perfect spot in a grassy area, in perfect formation...

    Dabchick

Welcome to BPN, glad to see you posting! Cute bird, and I love the rich colours. Sharp, but perhaps a large crop? The piece of vegetation sticking up behind the bill is unfortunate - you could perhaps at least trim the upwards part of it out. At the bottom, you were unlucky that the...

    Lapwing (Vanellus vanellus)

Wing position (as Artie noted) and composition (bird too high and centered) could both be better IMO, but yes sharp and I like the faint striations in the water BG.

    Lesser Yellowlegs And Reflection

Thanks guys! What artie said: both the ID pointers, and his book.....

    Swift

Man, heavy crop or not this is a once-in-a-lifetime image! I don't think you'll get another opportunity like that :) I photographed with that same gear for so many years, I am glad to see such images still coming from it.

    Palm-Nut Vulture

Very cool bird (a new one for me as well). Perfect head angle here, and the vertical composition as a no-brainer. The brighter spots in the background do pull my eye - maybe those can be toned down a touch. The perch is average IMO, not good but not bad, but I love the fungi growing on it...

    Malabar Parakeet pair

Beautiful birds and great colours! Good interaction too. For me, the comp would need a bit more top and right (and maybe a sliver off bottom), but all else is simply gorgeous.

    Heading West

I love it! Great close up, and the open bill adds interest. I like the added room below in Artie's repost - that repost does look to have tweaked colours as well, the blues seem more "cyan"?
