    A fresh morning !

@Arthur Morris Thanks for your comments. Regarding photographing ducks; I learned over time that I need to perfect my skills by photographing what is easily available. Doing it in my neighborhood helps me spend time thinking and planning more about the picture I want to take. Going on an exotic...

    A fresh morning !

Thank you Jonathan. I had the same feeling about the head sharpness. I just checked it in DPP and shows it focussed on the eye. So I am assuming it is motion that blurred it. Yes I wish if I had framed it with some more space at the top.

    A fresh morning !

Hi All, I am sharing a recent picture I made during my trip to a nearby park. I was not sure what to expect and I had not planned an action shot and hence had a regular shutter speed. But this bird decided to pose for me and I just clicked in the hopes of getting a picture. Looks like the low...

    Egret in the mist

Beautiful picture ! I love the dreaminess. I love how the grass in the background is briefly lit just to emphasize its presence :-) I also like that the background is infinity and not stopping immediately at the bushes. I love the look of the bird to the distance. The fog made sure the water...

What's in your kit bag when shooting?

I used to carry a big bag with all my gear and pretty much stick to what I am already hand holding. As you rightly said, it is the fear of missing an opportunity. I found focusing on one or two things actually bear more fruits. Now a days I just keep all my extra lenses and tripod in my car and...

What's in your kit bag when shooting?

Appreciate taking so much time to really "help me" explaining like a good friend :-) :) World is so much better with people like you !!! I am glad that you shared the feedback regarding 200-800, so that I have one less lens to consider against. Do you always use 300 2.8 with extender or do you...

What's in your kit bag when shooting?

Hello Steve, Thank you for this interesting and very useful post ! Are you able to pack EF 500mm F4 and all other stuff in one bag? That sounds like a big bag. I have a Think Tank bag just for the 500. So I end up taking just that or others (leaving behind 500 F4). I had purchased 500 F4...

    Buzzard close to landing

Very pleasing picture Andreas ! The background is equally pleasing. How did you decide on the exposure settings ? I have heard a technique on setting exposure by pointing to the sky as a baseline. I would love to hear what you usually do ? I usually try a gut feeling and then adjust. The...

    Pied Kingfisher with a catch

I love the color of the perch and sharpness of the bird ! I think the background is little distracting especially I think due to the color of the bird. A more plain background, I think they achieve it using photoshop would have popped the bird better. But I like the fact that the picture is...

More help with cropping and/or removing distractions

You are so lucky to have that flower , bird and river exactly positioned ! Yes I feel it is over saturated . I like the reprocessed version that Steve posted better. This photo reminds me that bird photography does not need to be just a picture of a bird and it actually becomes an art work...

Hi Artie, Thanks for spending so much time in responding to my post in detail. Please see my responses below. #1: Were you handholding? (Ah, I see that you were on a tripod. That is good. With decent technique, you should be fine with static subjects like these at 320 sec. I will often shoot...

    Just chilling...

Thank you Steve for such a detailed explanation ! I am convinced that I need to get the most accurate exposure possible while taking picture. The link is invaluable as well. So what I understand is, RawDigger helps learn as you make mistakes and improve up on it. Is that the idea of using a...

Hello Steve, First of all, thank you for taking time to look into it. Assuming HH - means hand held. I remember it was on a good tripod. It is on Full frame. I think my focus setting was all points. I think I set it to all points eye detection(i believe) as I was also trying to capture...
