    Blue *** on a stick

It's a quiet day, so I thought I would post another from the series of small birds in Spain earlier this year. It is the same setup and possibly the same stick/reed as my earlier posting. I have always found these little guys difficult to photograph as they don't stay still for long. But...

    Red-breasted Merganser in Sweet Setting.

Hi Dan, I guess others thought like I do that this image is so cool that there was nothing to say. Head angle? Really? ;) Gerald

    Incoming Buzzard

Hey Andreas, Obviously not ideal conditions, but the Buzzard looks good and the overall composition and inclusion of the Ravens tells the story. I like the shape that the Buzzard makes. The detail looks good for the high ISO and there is a nice touch of movement in the wingtips. Thanks for...

    Iberian Chiffchaff on a stick

An image from earlier this year, an afternoon spent in a hide dedicated to small birds in central Spain. This Iberian Chiffchaff was a frequent visitor and as the afternoon went by the light got better and better, and shadows were falling on the background. I'm not a big fan of the classic...

    Great Spotted Woodpecker

Hi Andreas, Yes, a simple image but very well done. Agreed that the pose is very nice - I always like the way they stabilise with the tail! Colours and details look spot-on! Nice detail in the blacks and the whites. Thanks for sharing. Gerald

    White Throated Dipper

Hi Andreas, I really like the idea and the execution is pretty good too! Works for me! Very nice detail and colour of the Dipper. Thanks for sharing, Gerald

    Yeah ! Or Meh ?

Hi Krish, When I first see it, it is a "yeah!" - because of the instant captured. I like the way the black & white of the Kingfisher works against the colourful background. The colours themselves look great - maybe worth cleaning up some of the spots etc. On the other hand, I find that the...

    Nuthatch Part 2 (ISO 16K)

Hi Steve, Nice little Nuthatch! I like the striking pose and alert attitude of the bird. Lots of fine detail despite the high ISO, particularly the little feathers around the eye. I like the way the colour of the background works so well with that of the bird. Thanks for sharing, Gerald

    Red-Necked Falcon

Hi Krish, I am enjoying this image very much. I like the use of space and suggestion of dusk with the subdued, warm light. The bird and perch are delightful and I like the way you have placed them well to the left, the bird looking out over its hunting area. Thanks for sharing, Gerald

    Egret on dark water

Something quite different from my recent morning with the Great White Egret. It stepped out from the reeds to the more open water to hunt the very small fishes. These Egrets are said to symbolize spiritual awakening and enlightenment, teaching lessons about balance, patience, and adaptability...

    Eurasian Hoopoe

Hi Krish, Always love to see a Hoopoe! For me, the colour of the bird looks way off. I am used to seeing them as a light dusty pink/tan. This one looks quite rusty. Maybe you could take another look at it. Thanks for sharing, Gerald

    Osprey

HI Ramon, Surprising that you have not received any comments on this image. The shot looks well exposed and the detail in the feathers look good. For me the crop is too tight. You could easily add space on the left and above the bird if you have it - give the bird some space to move into...

    Fieldfare (Turdus pilaris)

Hi Jon, Starting to get serious winter when there is snow on the ground and Fieldfares feeding on the apples! Neither has arrived in my garden yet. Such a pretty bird - I love the combination of the greys and browns with the tan and white breast. This one is making a striking, alert pose and...

    White-tailed eagle

Hi Kasra, Nice White-tailed Eagle. I like the underwing detail and the overall detail of the image. It looks to me that it was shot in warm morning light, thus the extra yellow and magenta that Jon sees. I like that and see it as a benefit rather than a flaw. Thanks for sharing, Gerald

    Bird Behavior is Often Repetitive

Hi Phill, I went for the Flexshooter Pro several years back. I see it as a buy good, buy once kind of investment. When laying low, my Flexshooter is on a "Skimmer pod", and I find that preferable to a bean bag. Different way of looking at things, I guess. Gerald
