    Black-and-White Warbler

That's a beauty, Bill ! I must get back there again .. it's been far too long.

    White-throated Sparrow on Thorny Vine

Yes, I can move the focus point, and will be more likely to use it more in the future. Thanks for emphasizing the point.

    Theme Short-eared Owl redux

I like it, Bill. I have a similar photo from those same fields (!) but mine is more distant.

    Varied Bunting

Just beautiful. Never thought the back of a bird could look so good ! Of course, the turned head angle makes that possible. Interesting that the top of the bird is in sharp focus, while the lower half and tail are slightly OOF. Knowing they're closer to the lens probably explains it, but I find...

    White-throated Sparrow on Thorny Vine

    I understand, Artie.

    White-throated Sparrow on Thorny Vine

Thanks for the suggestions and insight, Isaac. I agree with all and consider myself reminded. As I mentioned earlier, this is a full frame shot, so the tail location came with the territory.

    White-throated Sparrow on Thorny Vine

It's no crop, Jonathon ... this is a full frame image. Points well-taken with the sat and contrast. I was probably a bit too enthusiastic in editing.

    White-throated Sparrow on Thorny Vine

I'm not seeing the 'poor' image quality that you are, Artie, though I agree it could have better detail and sharpness. Yes, the tail is way to close to the edge of the frame edge. I would have had to correct that with better comp in the field, as this is a full frame image.

    Grey ghost

Excellent capture of a favorite raptor. Noting the comments on the dark triangle, I'd consider pulling down the upper border to eliminate about half the dark section, making the image more pano in style. But that's an artistic choice, and I respect your presentation !

    White-throated Sparrow on Thorny Vine

I saw this one on a farm hedge line in indirect sun under some trees. Normally I don't like busy scenes, but this is where they hang out. Nikon D850 in DX mode Nikon 500 PF with 1.4 TC III 1/5000 F8 ISO 2800 Full frame

    High-key Pine Grosbeak.

Spectacular high key. I'm a fan of the method, though rarely do it.

    Tricolored Heron

Dramatic to the max ! Stunningly beautiful colors.

    Female Harrier

Love this one, Arash. I'm a big fan of exposing for the bird against shade, and getting the black BG.

    From PA in the USA

Welcome aboard, Tom ! I'm holding down the fort in the Eastern part of our fair state.

    Theme Red-necked Phalarope

Agree with earlier comments, Bill. This is a fabulous POV photograph. Of course the bane of cloudy days can be diminished catch light. Re the POV, were you prone on the shore? How high above sand was the lens ?
  16. Bill Jobes

    Sharptailed Sandpiper

I can't imagine a better capture under these conditions. The comp is perfect.

    Hooded Merganser Takeoff #2

Love this one, Bill -- in every way.

    ACR vs. NX2

Dan, I think it had to do with Nikon losing a license that was critical to NX-2, when Google gobbled up Nik, which created NX-2. - Bill

    ACR vs. NX2

The reds look more saturated on the ACR file. I always give the nod to the manufacturer's specific raw converter, presuming they have proprietary algorithms to render with greater accuracy. Nikon's new raw converter is Capture NX-D. You may wish to investigate it, as they no longer support...

    Disappointed in 7D II

Hi Simon, Have you done an Autofocus Micro-Adjustment with this lens/body combo ? This image sure looks like you may have a mis-match that could be corrected. - Bill
