    Monitor Selection

If you're printing large prints of the very highest quality, then you'll want to see and use the full RGB gamut. For internet, the standard is sRGB. Most of the vanity book printers have now moved to sRGB. In my cameras, when selecting the color space for my RAW files, I select RGB, just in...

    Monitor Selection

Hi Krishna. Within you budget, you will not be able to find a monitor with the full RGB gamut. If you can get 100% of sRGB, that would be good. The Dells that you mention are "best buys". 24" is where to start. Larger is better, but you can do fine with 24". Hopefully you can borrow a...

Canon Northern Explorer of Light Moves To Sony a9

Here's a great video, by photojournalist Rick Wilking for Reuters, showing him using an a9 to tell the total eclipse story. He ended up getting a shot of a airliner passing the sun during totality...

Canon Northern Explorer of Light Moves To Sony a9

I haven't shot it in heavy rain yet. Chris did, in the workshop before I arrived at the puffin paradise. He had a generic cover on it and it didn't skip a beat. I suspect that weather protection is down in the 5D-range. I'll probably use a cover in rain and try just blowing off the snow, like I...

Canon Northern Explorer of Light Moves To Sony a9

Actually, $4500 seems like a bargain. Chris is replacing $6000 bodies with $4500 bodies. (I doubt he pays that for either, but that's what I would pay) The a9/100-400mm G Master combo blows away my $3500, 5D MkIV in terms of AF acquisition and tracking. Add the Sony FE 1.4x teleconverter and...

Canon Northern Explorer of Light Moves To Sony a9

Check out Christopher Dodd's Recent Blog posts about his experience with the Sony a9 full-frame body and the Sony FE G Master 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 OSS lens and the Sony FE 1.4x teleconverter. I was with Chris when he captured some of those puffin shots and I've since bought my own a9/G Master...

Together, Metabones, Sony & Canon Hit Grand Slam

<tbody> A little more follow-up: I shot over 2,000 shots this weekend with the Sony a9, Metabones EF-to-E T-adapter MkV and my Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II, with and without my Canon EF 1.4x TC-III. Subjects included Painted Lady butterflies, egrets, heron and deer. I took loads of test...

Sony Alpha a9 Mirrorless Digital Camera with Canon lenses

Melissa Usery, good news. The Metabones EF-to-E T Adapter, MkV, does the job. See my review elsewhere in this forum.

Together, Metabones, Sony & Canon Hit Grand Slam

<article>Here are some other, miscellaneous comments, not necessarily related to using long Canon lenses. Remember, this is all with the Metabones EF-to-E T Adapter MkV. Any other adapter might give totally different results. Works very well with these lense: EF 14mm f/2.8L II (in-body image...

Together, Metabones, Sony & Canon Hit Grand Slam

Of course, you're right, all I had was slow birds, so that's what I shot. Still, Canon wouldn't get 33 or 55 in a row, or a sharp eye on a bird passing behind cattails. The processing is quite different from Canon files and I'm still trying to figure out the best way to handle them. Chris...

Together, Metabones, Sony & Canon Hit Grand Slam

Together, Metabones, Sony and Canon hit a grand slam. I put Metabones first because, without MB, Sony and Canon would never get together. Most have heard by now that Sony’s new α9 (aka a9 or ILCE-9), which has incredible performance with Sony’s native G-Master lenses. The autofocus can latch...

Sony Alpha a9 Mirrorless Digital Camera with Canon lenses

The question of the a9 driving an EF 500mm f/4L IS II is still out, but I'm pessimistic. The Metabones E-to-EF adapter does not take advantage of the 25 Contrast Detection AF Points on the a9. With the native Sony 100-400mm G-Master lens, AF is mind blowing. I'll be testing more this weekend...

Sony Alpha a9 Mirrorless Digital Camera with Canon lenses

I'm working with an a9/Canon500/Metabones combination right now. It's actually more awkward to hold than with the 5D MkIV body, because the balance is more forward. It's doable, but you won't experience significant relief.
