    House Finch feeding

I got lucky and had the pleasure of observing and recording this little sequence of a male House Finch feeding its young. Canon 7D Mark II, Sigma 500 F/4 S + 1.4 X TC, ss 1/1000, ISO 200, f/5.6

    Paper preference for your prints

I recently purchased a Canon Pixma Pro-100 printer and am learning my way around it. It definitely matches the reviews I have seen on its quality of prints. On to the title question. What paper type do you prefer for prints of your photos? I have sent photos for print and have only ordered...

    Theme Wilson's Phalarope

I went for more contrast but it was as you suspected.

    Theme Wilson's Phalarope

I wished the sun was coming over my general area instead of mostly from the side. I was aiming at the eye with the center point. I see your point with a little more foreground.

Canon 7D MK II, EF 100-400 MK II, EF 1.4X TC MK III, 1/1600 SS, F/11, ISO 400, 560mm Cropped to size slightly, white balance, adjust blacks and exposure, removed distracting elements from background

    Cedar Waxwing Potrait

The tail is out of focus, but it is not a critical issue. I would have gone for f/8 or maybe better yet f/11. I think you have done as much as you can do to the shot otherwise.

    Taking the plunge

More plunge shots Quite fun and challenging to figure which was the bird was going to go.

Belding's Ground Squirrel at the entrance to the lair

Thanks Haseeb. Actually the second one I did is a 50% crop. I have gotten so used to bird photography where you try to get it as tight as reasonably possible or maybe a little more. I am working on backing off on the crops to get a more environmental look when I have that kind of shot. Just...

Belding's Ground Squirrel at the entrance to the lair

Thanks Steve. I have bought the guide and found it to be quite helpful.

Belding's Ground Squirrel at the entrance to the lair

Thanks Steve. I am trying to figure out which I like best. I am leaning to DPP so I think I will keep going there unless it can not handle blown highlights. It seems to have much less headroom in highlights than LR. Yes lighting was harsh as this is at an elevation of about 2700 meters...

Belding's Ground Squirrel at the entrance to the lair

Hi Rachel, Here is a RP. I went back and changed crop to something a little less severe and did nothing to it other than applying lens correction and color balance in DPP4 and setting the picture style to faithful. OP was done in LR only with picture style of standard. I did change my color...

    Theme Pangolin

Wonderful capture. Although the OOF grass is a bit of a distraction it is part and parcel of finding animals in the wild.

Same Game Drive, A Little Later - Aardvark!

I like the RP much better, too. Always difficult to choose a shooting mode. Congrats on the find and getting a good capture as well.

    Theme Wild dog puppy

Fantastic shots with loads of cuteness. Angle and location of capture are excellent.

Male Lion on the Sand River

Well taken. Very good sharpness. As a bird photographer I too have the same issues with DOF. You have all of the critical areas sharp so missing the tail and paws as critical sharp is no issue to me.

    Debt Collector

Well taken shot. Love the amber back lighting. Definitely adds to the ambiance as does the choice to leave the glare in the shot. If there was no crop on this you were way too close in my mind. Very nice of him to not charge. Glad you made it out unscathed.

Belding's Ground Squirrel at the entrance to the lair

Large crop, over 73% of pixel gone. Sharpening, lowered highlights, lifted shadows and color balance for adjustments. Canon 7D, EF 100-400 mk I, ISO 200, 1/1000 SS, 400mm, f/5.6 Would love everyone's thoughts on the highlights on the fur and whiskers and how you would deal with them if at...

    Taking the plunge

I have a couple more from other plunges but none came out in a good sequence like this one. I may have cut off the sequence with the plunges as I try to keep the head in focus. Need to work that out for this type of action. I have found getting water droplets and even water running off of the...

    Lions in the sky

Wonderful inspiration to flip the photo. Such a great shot.

    Foxes in the backyard

Great shots. I too think the long grass is fine as it is part of the environment and actually adds to the story.
