This loon was taken two weeks ago on a dim/ rainy morning. I thought it cried out for a B&W conversion .

Z9. 180-600 at 520 mm f/ 7.1. ISO 6400 EV +2.33. Taken from my Kayay in Northern Michigan

Modest crop. B&W conversion, added back in a bit of color for the eye.

Advice and comments always appreciated.

Cheers

Hi Randy, great choice in the conversion, as the colouration really makes for a B/W conversion and can often eliminate distracting colours at times. The slight angle away from camera and wings outstretched are all compounded IMHO, to the choice of crop, the 'letterbox' which I feel just tightens up the whole composition. Nice space all around for the subject to breather too. The water droplets on the head are the icing for me.

The Z9 is rocking, but the EV is far less aggressive I feel compared to Canon... currently. :bg3:

Looks very good indeed, tonal details and composition are spot on.
(Just a little confused - B&W but the eye is red??)

Jon: I mentioned that I added the eye color back in. It is so iconic for a loon, I couldn't leave it out!
