A really old one this, but just popped up in my mind after seeing an excellent tern tossing a fish elsewhere on these forums.
This was shot late in the evening at a local reservoir, handheld with a 7D2 and EF100-400II. I was sat on the bank for a couple of hours watching the terns feed and getting myself burnt to a crisp in the process. Shame the terns have not really visited that reservoir in numbers since.
I did get lucky with this one. I have only ever entered three photographic competitions in my life and this one placed second in an RSPB calendar comp. I did get some ribbing about that as the RSPB listed it as an artic tern.
