This was another super special frame for me.

We have four species of humminbirds in Colorado, and the Calliope is the most rare. I was super blessed to be invited by another great photography friend to visit our local botanical gardens where he had seen a male Calliope a few days prior.

Our journey led us to a beautiful garden patch where we found this fella. I was fortunate to be able to catch him in the wild feeding at close range, and this was the result.

Unfortunately the rolling shutter effects of the R5/R6 caused me to have to clone in part of the rear wing but it was such a great, purely natural shot that I didn't mind.

RE the name - one of our leadership team members asked me how you say this name, thus the title of the photo :)

Hey Brian Why are you asking for a Bullfinch in the US .... you have these lovely subjects
I would love to see them in the wild ... I have seen some but many moons ago and I was not that much into serious photography at that time . 1984 ..... a visit in Costa Rica .
I am happy for you that you managed a shot like this .
Besides the overall IQ and presentation , which is excellent , I do really like the feeding action with the beak and partially the head being inside the blossom .... kinda cool . Glad you have the yellow blob in the BG .... as it does break the monotony of the BG !!!
No nits at all ... apart from the crappy R6 issues with the rolling shutter , not in your hands so not a problem .

A fine shot my friend

really nice frame, I like the even light and the details, I like the soft BF. there are some rolling shutter artifacts in the wing area but not much you can do, hopefully the new canon bodies can mitigate this short coming

Lovely frame Brian and so pleasing to the eye. All looks good, I wouldn't change a thing. Great pose and I really like the head going into the flower, and the eye showing is perfect. Lovely colours throughout and I like your choice of crop. The yellow colour on the BG behind the flower adds to the image. Good work.
