Location
Holland, Europe
For weeks this bird had been present in a typical recreational area in the Netherlands, Europe. Countless walkers and dogs, so a location I stay far away from. The spot the bird had chosen had hardly anything to do with nature, but after weeks of looking at countless photos, I threw my principles overboard. It is a bird of which an example occasionally comes down from Scandinavia to our country. A kind of golden opportunity.
And when you lie flat on your stomach, half in the water, the surroundings disappear by themselves. It did not become much more than the standard portrait, but the light was fine at the end of the afternoon.
Canon EOS R3, Aperture 5,6 - ISO 1600 and a shutterspeed of 1/1000 sec. Correction + 0.3 Full size image.

One of the nicest Dippers posted, for a very long time Jan. 👌

Great colour palette, love the soft ripples and light ochre backdrop, it really makes the subject pop very nicely. Being side on and square to the sensor has helped too, the water droplets are a nice touch.

The R3 is such a great camera, but as these birds bob & weave, no harm is upping your SS to say 1/2500 as you can forget the ISO.

Oh what lovely low angle shot of the relaxed habituated :ROFLMAO: ;) :) Dipper ... well done Jan.
Technically very nicely done ... and I do love the low angle . Silky water does look very pleasing and the tonal gradation from front to back is oh so nice .
Fully understand your thoughts going or not going to that spot ... but if the option is there , go and shoot .

Hi Steve. The bird was quite busy looking at all the spectators, so it was not too bad with "bob and weave". Nice expression though!! Thanks for your comment.

My timing was perfect, so to speak. I was the last person to see the bird that day. And the next day it was gone! Thanks.

Very nice indeed, colours look good the water is idyllic - so smoooooth! The image has a lot going for it - well done.

Oh this really is a fantastic colour pallet and image. Excellent sharpness on the subject with perfect smooth background. I really enjoy watching dippers but have not tried to photograph them. I think American dippers (what I have around me) might be less colourfull as they seem quite black from a distance.
