Hi Jon ... nice to see more of the Beaver , can`t remember seen posted images here .... at least not for a very long time.
Very nice overall image with a pleasing comp , albeit there are numerous variations possible .
Colors looking quite good , the coolness in the frame is reflecting the early morning quiet well . Overall tones do look kinda " mixed " good , as I think you have darkened or lightened some parts of the image ... depending on the original capture .
The BG does look " processed " with bright center and darker BG ... if you understand what I mean . Beaver does look nice and detailed , albeit I would give the subject more boost .
The feeding plant ... is a nice bonus , but I would burn it to get more attention to the subject .

I like the shot , would just choose a slightly different editing approach ... in parts !

Good evening Jon,

Lovely capture of this adult Beaver and great timing! Does he or she feed on those leaves, or the stalks?

Well composed and POV looks good, this time you managed to get lower which is awesome!

SS quite low... and do not think overexposing was necessary? Grass behind subject quite bright and draws the eye a bit, I would darken it.

IMHO the subject could do with just a tad more 'punch' and I would try get more definition on those big leaves. Love those water ripples:S3:

I always enjoy a behavioural image and this is no exception. Did not comment on colours as such as I haven't seen those beavers before...Suppose you could extract more detail from the subject with some fine tweaks...

Seems you have sorted the computer/software issues, so happy for you and glad you are posting again, many thanks for sharing!

Warmest regards,

Hi Jon, is this taken on the same day as the previous one on your workshop, or another day?

I can see you were struggling for light, shooting wide open, based on ISO 8000 and a SS 1/320 HH, so I'm guessing NR was quite high based on the previous Raw. I quite like the low POV, lower would be better but I know you said it was difficult to do so. In terms of capture I much prefer this with the beaver heading towards you with the vegetation in the jaws. Good call if you have darkened the FG just helps the image. Personally I'm not loving the framing, perhaps less above and a fraction off the RHS just to take the subject off centre, but still giving space in the FG for the Beaver to swim into.

Colour I think you are getting there, it is overall a bit OFF still, however we are looking at your 'processed' file, so its obviously taking in you tweaks, adjustments and manipulations. The boulder and grey 'branch?' on the RHS I would evict, they just catch my eye and when removed the image looks cleaner, but ultimately there is noting conflicting with subject.

One thing you should perhaps look into, Canon has always had a slight magenta bias, Nikon is Green, so it may help if you could see if the raw file from the OM system has a slight cast to it at the start.

Thanks Steve, I have (possibly) begun to get things a little more back to normal and I am using my usual processing techniques from now on. I think I was beating up the files somewhat after spending too much time on Olympus forums and adopting their processing techniques. Hopefully future posts will look a little more like they should be expected to appear.
