Hand held and cropped to portrait mode. Finding the beavers was relatively easy, being in the right place to capture a little activity was not quite so easy.

Patience Jon, patience... :bg3:

Good choice in format, but I can see more of a 3x2 coming in either side to emphasis the vertical of the subject. Interesting to see how high the water comes in, quite considerable. Colours I can live with, nothing too out of kilter, albeit did you lighten the Beaver? 'Visually'... could the overall framing need a slight CW rotation I'm not sure, to me this is where it's all about visual rather than a line.

Good to see a reasonable SS here Jon, I just don't understand why you choose random SS, ISO, Aperture and shoot various frames, to me its what's the DoF required, how fast is the subject moving to determine SS, ISO is what it is, its just a number, nothing more, nothing less.

Fine, portrait works, I just feel going slightly tighter ie 3x2 is more portrait and works with the standing beaver, juxtapose to a more looser portrait.

Hi Jon ... this a nice combo of environmental and behavioral shot .
The composition does work well for me and the overall appearance is quite natural in terms of light fall ... personally I would put more emphasis on the subject by adding a vignette ( in whatever form ) and give the subject a touch more tonal depth / contrast .
Overall an enjoyable image , well done

Please keep the Beavers coming
