Hi folks .. a second try with the GSW and the nut hammering , nut is still visible Jon and I do actually like it .
Tried a version with slow SS ... did not work out as I wanted it to be , so here is again a fast SS used to freeze the moment .
This was the best frame out of two attempts .... of the GSW and me .
Framing is awkward somehow ... but not possible to switch to portrait without maybe spooking the subject off .

Canon EOS R 1
RF 400 2,8 IS L
Tripod

F 5 ; Iso 5000 ; 1/4000 sec

Processed with ACR and PSCC 2025 ; slight crop for a better comp

THX for looking and commenting to my previous threads

Cheers Andreas

It's a super shot Andreas, I quite like the hazel nut shell in mid air. The details and colours look very good indeed. The fast shutter speed really did freeze the action.
The cynic in me however asks why would a hazel nut be flying from what appears to be a silver birch tree? In other words I think bait is ok but it needs to be suited to the image to make it credible.

Very cool, Andreas!

I like most things about this image - branch, bird, background - all looking good. I also like the flying hazel shell.

Jon has a point about the bait and set-up being appropriate. You're probably not going to get away with entering this one in the WPOTY 2025!

Thanks for sharing,

G.

THX Jon and Gerald for your feedback / comments ... i do appreciate it.

@ Gerald ... i am not expecting any award with this image . It is all about that i got ( almost ) what i had in mind . I wish the shell would have been closer to the bird . But even 40 fps was not enough ....

Cheers Andreas

THX Jon ... fully except your thought about it . Just do see it more relaxed than you ...
If i do find a hazelnut trunk i might try it again , but then one can argue a nut is never placed in a hole of the trunk . But there might be ways to make it better and more realistic .... i.e. using a horizontal log and try it .
You being picky ... but your sitting on the wrong horse regarding the tree species , this is a Ash not a Silver Birch ;):ROFLMAO:

Regardless of your excepted thoughts ... i will keep going , as it is great fun when i do get my desired results

Cheers Andreas

This really shows the action, love the small shell pieces around the breast and the big piece off in mid air, all with a great balance of sharp and blur. I know you were trying to get a little action blur on the bird with a lower SS. Would have loved to see that, but this is already an achievement. Also agree with your own point that portrait might give it a bit better presentation. I could go either side of the hazel in an Ash, it's baited and if that's what it is, then so be it.
