A classic! maybe just a slight levels adjustment.

Chas,
Beautiful image. I like the soft fog look of the original. Ofer's repost has too much contrast in my opinion, especially in the hands/feet and that draws the viewer away from the faces.

Chas,

Great image, Ofers repost looks to have more punch and clarity but the effect on the "shiny" hands is too strong.

Then again the mist must have an effect on the overall perception.

Chas, nice capture! I've always been fascinated by these. Can you please discuss how difficult it is to approach these animals and how they act around humans?

I'm interested too. Of course he did shoot this with a 70-200mm on a FF body, so they have to be fairly tolerant of humans.

How can anyone remember the exact mid-tones in a scene that's beyond me but this is your image...:w3

Ofer,
IMO Chas's original post represents hotsprings in snow environment much better than your repost. I have not been to Japan but photographed ducks in Thermopolis hotsprings in winter. Similar environment and steam kind of reduces the contrast.

Beautiful picture. Love all those hands and feet and the contact going on. I find myself wishing for some eye contact, but suspect this is more realistic; and anyway the little one's expression is just perfect.
