Taken on the same day as the Nuthatches, but here the light and autumnal backdrop was just 'on fire'!

Subject: Kingfisher M (Alcedinidae)
Camera: Canon EOS R3
Lens: EF 300mm F/2.8L IS II USM
Exposure: 1/2000 at f/9 ISO 8k
Original format: Landscape, FF width

Hi Steve,
This is a very different Kingfisher image - I don't recall ever seeing this pose like this - looking into the depths, wings fully lifted on the instant prior to lift-off! Awesome timing!
The detail on the bird is great including the slightest blur on the wingtips - or maybe that is just a DoF thing.
But most of all, I really enjoy the richness of the colour - the bird and the background. Wow!

Thanks for sharing,

Gerald

Excellent. Beautiful colours everywhere in the image; especially the B/G .If you were set up for flight you would be at a higher shutter speed . So I presume the DOF problem was insoluble; but I did notice it in both wings.

Thanks Gerald, just about to dive, so just caught it. The R5MK2 was sitting with another lens otherwise pro capture would have been the right move.

Motion blur I'm guessing as I needed more SS, ie 1/4000, but then I needed probably to go to ISO 12,800

Was lucky it was one of those awesome days with Autumnal light that was OTT. Think you will like some postings in Wildlife next year for richness. :)

Have a great Xmas and a safe New Year.

I should have been Ian, as I said to Gerald, I needed to be around 1/4000 and having a high ISO isn't a problem, its just a number, but would have been better to have used the R5MK2 also and deployed pro capture, DOH.
