The only reason I'm posting this is because of the behaviour, the Kestrel is illustrating IMHO "mantling."

Subject: Kestrel (M) (Falco tinnunculus)
Camera: Canon EOS R5
Lens: EF 300mm F/2.8 IS USM II 1.4 MKIII
Exposure: 1/3200 at f/8 ISO40000
Original format: Portrait, added a sliver to the RHS to push the content left in frame

All Raw captures perfectly exposed, confirmed by Raw Digger

Subject baited.

Hello Steve,

You have captured a truly interesting behavioural aspect which is not often seen or photographed - very special image!
BTW owls do this too, quickly shield the prey before another predator sees it.

I actually like this a lot. Fantastic pose from the subject, love the way it focuses on the mouse. There's also this sense of 'urgency' one perceives when viewing, of immediate danger ...the frame certainly tells the story.

Techs look great, image well exposed and tack sharp where it needs to be. BG is superb. Ticks all the boxes for me 👏 👏 👏

Warmest regards,
Gabriela

Super! Great colours and action, I like the post/perch, it looks entirely credible, sometimes these perches look beleivable and sometimes not but this works for me. The buttercups in the background set the scene nicely. Composition to me is OK but I may have been tempted to place the subject more to the left rather than more to the right.

Sometimes a shot is more interesting to me because of the behaviour it shows. This is one of those shots that just makes me smile. Lovely to see.
