The Male kicked the juvenile off the post and then took time out to preen.

The post is from the original fencing, and personally I like the barbed wire as the site is on a working farm and where barbed wire is used to keep stock in their respective locations. The weathering also give nice texture IMHO.

Some of the debris shed perhaps could go, but I have left it all in.

Subject: Kestrel (M) (Falco tinnunculus)
Camera: Canon EOS R5
Lens: EF 500mm F/4 IS USM II 1.4 MKIII
Exposure: 1/3200 at f/9 ISO1250
Original format: Portrait, very slight crop top/RHS

All Raw captures perfectly exposed, confirmed by Raw Digger

Good morning Steve,

Mr. Fluffy is as cute and fluffy as I imagined him to be;)

Very nice capture of this Kestrel. Lovely detail in those fine feathers, great colours, background is superb. Nice framing too.
Perch has lots of character but does not detract from the subject, for me it adds to the 'story'.

Not sure which debris you are referring to? On the perch? I quite like the presence of the wire around the perch, those bits of feathers flying about show the subject was preening.

I like everything about this, Steve. Thank you so much for sharing.

Warmest regards,
Gabriela

I think the desbris referred to is that shed from the wings during the ruffle. Colours look super and image clean as a whistle. The fast shutter speed ensured a tack sharp image. I am guessing you have used masks to enhance the lighting - so appealing. I like everything about the image (the title though...not my cup of tea!)
The perch looks super, in fact I have my eye on one which is rather similar in appearance, it will make a good prop in my new field set up!

Thanks Gabriela, but on reflection as soon as I posted the image, there is one thing I should have done.... Add the amount I cropped off on the RHS to the LHS, albeit not a huge amount, but.

Again, all done within Lr and some of the more 'hidden' options.

Thanks

Jon, what a surprise, I appreciate your comments.

The fast shutter speed ensured a tack sharp image.

Shooting manual I can pick and choose and because of the 'action' prior it just carried over into the more static shots.

I am guessing you have used masks to enhance the lighting - so appealing.
There is a lot more I can do within Lr and the Raw, so in answer to your question yes, but you have to start with the info first, ie the light was there, its just how you use it.

'Ruffled feathers' is just over used these days.

I'm always on the lookout, but as this was lying down in the grass from when the new post were put in, I just thought it might be more interesting, even with man made items attached.

Looking forward to more feedback from you on other threads perhaps? :)

I like it as is, would not change a thing, Steve ☺️
