A Noisy Miner portrait. Landed about a meter in front of me with too much lens so stepped back for the shot.

Hi Colin, you did well from what you describe as a 'grab' shot. Can I assume the light was coming in from the RHS so the left part of the body would be more in shadow? There is some funky stuff going on around the eye.

I'd like to see a bit more tonal range to add the form and depth so the light 'sculps' and 'wraps' around the bird, (love those phrases). :)

Maybe having cleaner whites, no cast, and pumping some colour in may help, likewise having the subject lighter/BG darker, many options, just some thoughts.

Nice to see you back posting again.

Hi Colin ... quite nice grab shot .
Not a big fan of these squarish crops , but you might have a reason for that apart from being that close to the subject .
You did well with the kit and the limited DOF ... sharp where it needs to be. Overall colors are ok .
I am not too excited about the " blotchy " BG and the supper smooth area around the eye ....

Good to see you posting
