Maybe not the greatest image but it makes smile none the less. I spotted some Northern Bobwhites foraging around the road a way up from me.
I pulled over and sat on the road behind my vehicle. I wasn't sure if audio would work on them but to my surprise it did. This bird wasn't flying, but
it was flying when it pasted me. Because of my position I couldn't see the bird until it was nearly parallel to me. I managed to get get focus lock
almost immediately. I had to use a couple of frames past this position to even get a little of breathing room in front of the bird as the bird was almost
at the front of the original frame. Nearly full frame.

Hey Jack, I had a chance to shoot these guys in south Texas. I have so many files of them and few are better than the running and the rousing ones.

Pretty cool shot, and considering the situation I think you did well. A touch more SS and maybe you freeze that front foot.

You could probably pull the contrast back just a bit but I do like the tones. Nice that his head cleared those bright green grasses.

I miss these guys. Thanks for sharing the story and the frame!

Jack: I think this is quite a fun image, reminds me of the "Road Runner" cartons. Yeah, I know, a long time ago! The pose is great, there is enough real estate for my tastes, but a bit more room to run into wouldn't hurt from a story telling standpoint.

Cheers

Randy

Super shot Jack - well done, for me just a little large in the frame colours and details and the flying gravel make this a real attention grabber.
