Sorry I've been away these past weeks friends but I wanted to poke in and tell everyone Merry Christmas!!!

Many of you know I love winter as we get a great migration of waterfowl. Here is one of the smallest species in the world, the Bufflehead, and also one of my absolutely favorites.

Glad to be able to capture the color spectrum in the iridescence on his head.

*** NOTE - you must right-click and view in new tab to see this one in proper resolution. I still don't understand why with the new site ***

I presume no comments so far indicate that the shot is perfect leaving nothing to say! It is a great shot indeed. As for viewing in full resolution it just takes a couple of clicks on the posted image to get you there.

Bryan same for me, click once, nearly there click again and then full size. (Using Firefox)
Super shot, colours details and pose all excellent 🏆

Thank you Jon and Colin for the great feedback.

I’m curious, in your browser, please right click and open in a new tab and compare to clicking it twice within BPN and see if you notice enhanced sharpness and detail.

Hi Amigo ..
simply a stunning capture of this lovely species .
Top notch all around ... well controlled details in blacks and whites , super sharp and lovely colors !!!
BG is interesting ... maybe touch too busy , but this is complaining on a high level , LOL.

Personally I do not like your suggested viewing approach , as I have the image in front of a bright white BG in the new window . If I just double klick I get the image in front of a mid grey BG ... way better for my eyes

TFS Andreas

Beautiful shot. These guys are a real nemesis bird for me. First, in my area (So Cal) they are not common even in winter and they are super skittish. Second, trying to get the proper expopsure to not blow out the white and yet get the head color is a real challenge. You have obviously overcome both of these obstacles.

Andreas, that's odd on my PC both ways of viewing result in a mid tone grey background.

Very grateful for the feedback!

I wonder if it has to do with my large NEC monitor. Trying on my Macbook, it looks sharp within the browser window. As long as it appears properly sharp then we're good.

Andreas, the bkg was borderline for me too.

Thanks Jim and I agree without wholeheartedly. They are quite skittish but glad we can to catch them coming up the river in a tight proximity.

Jon that might be down to preferences in Safari ?? Or the system in general ...
I think as long as i am happy with double clicking in the image , it is all good for me.
Cheers Andreas

I have been viewing this image on a 27inch I Mack and away from home on a MackBook pro .Each time the high res [I presume] looks fantastic as does the original. Just one press on the orig. seems to do it.;Which was the instruction was it not; With gorgeous- lightish brown dry reeds? B/G. thank you Brian.
