Another image from a special sighting. A higher ISO , allowing for a higher F-stop creating additional DOF would be my crit

Canon 1Dx2
1/2000
F6.3
ISO 640

Truly special Basil, just look at the action there!

Trying to figure out where your focal point was, not always easy to focus as those chaps are fast and all over the place...
Do think 1/2000s might have been enough. Agree with you though, a higher F-stop would have been good.

Did the Kruger have any rain in October? I was there in September and it was very dry and dusty. In your image the grass isn't green and hardly any vegetation so I am guessing the park is still dry?

Given the time of the day and lighting conditions I think the colours are spot on. Exposure looks good, I would just drop the highlights a tad further on those bright patches like the neck of the wild dogs and maybe crop a bit from the top for a more pano look?

Let us see what the others say, I certainly enjoyed viewing and loving the action, thank you so much Basil for sharing!

Kind regards,

Hi Basil, another lovely capture and I really like the colour palette, that rich red/orange of the pan & water, the dogs are having a cracking time, like all dogs do.

Not sure what frames you have further on, but if you had that leaping dog just arching the one in the water and had more separation between the trailing dog and the leaping, how cool would that be, but in an ideal world...

Not sure what more DoF would have added, albeit it would increase your ISO and needed more SS. Perhaps dropping the whole frame down a fraction so you have a bit more at the foot?

I think overall it's well exposed and processed, perhaps a small midtown Curve adj, but.... just watch your sharpening on wet fur.

Keep the images coming and have a great weekend.

Steve

I hear you Steve - i wish this frame was a second later

I've lost count now on the frame count for the 1DX2, but if you have a reasonable amount just blast away, it's only frames and space on the card. If you were planning go Mirrorless then keep your old lenses and get an adaptor. Prices are dropping and a good time to review older mirrorless bodies. :)

Pleasing image, though brightest highlights a little too bright for my taste. I like the image but it leaves me wondering what the next one looked like... maybe the doeg far left would not have had his face obscured??

Jon, I'm struggling to see any bright HL's. if anything it looks all a bit mid tone? If I take it into Ps it's zero on the whites and the blacks are +7. It might explain my thoughts on the GF's????🤷‍♂️

Hi Basil ... bet this was stunning sighting , they are so cool to watch and photograph . Maybe very difficult to capture as they do move a lot in kind of chaos .
Love the colors and you managed a nice overall image even under the strong light ...
