HAP might be upset but I like this photo
ISO 400
400D
canon 400mm f5.6
1/125
20mm extension tube

Hi Dave - I think you should be fine with the HAP on this one.

Nice details- exposure looks good, nice catchlight in the eye.
Looks like not enough DOF to keep the tail sharp, I would also conside cloning out the OOF branches on the left (think this would make it a stronger image) and a couple of hotspots on the perch.
Nice one. ;) :) :)

Red Breasted Nut Hatch

I like the shot and the HA very much. I would try cloning out the branches on the left and toning down the hot spots on the feathers with Arthur's great tip on linear burn and a few spots on the branches.

I definitely would at least blur the big branch in the background.

Hi Dave,
Just remember to compose in camera before taking the image. Need to pay attention to the small details surrounding your subject; in this case the branches, and how they play with your subject...good show, you have good details and bright colors. I modified your image to eliminate the distracting branches...

Hi Dave

The harsh light is not helping much here and filtered even worse. Did real well with the exposure with the conditions. Not sure if it was possible to move right a little, sure like that bg. Head wise is not bad at all, you did get an good pose.
