The rut has started but not in full swing here in UK. This one was half heartedly adorning himself with grass, I was hoping he was going to bathe in the wallow but he decided against it. I appreciate the angle was not the most favourable but it was the optimal one achievable.

A bit too central for me Jon, a little less to the right, more to the left IMHO. Colour look a bit off, either too saturated or warmth (????) going cooler looks cleaner, but maybe separating the subject. Be nice if the Stag lifted his head with the grass entwined in the rack, but hey.... Looks sharp, but just on the cusp, albeit (great word) your call. Yes, being lower would have been better and would help your DoF behind.

Thanks Steve the reason for the composition was that were long grasses everywher playing havoc with the focus and obscuring the view - this was the clearest possible. I did add more saturation to the stag to try to emphasise it's presence. As you would guess lots of images taken but sadly none ideal, I was just waiting for him to raise his hed, but as I mentioned it was all a little half hearted.

Hi Jon ... this is a tough one to find attractive or a pleasing image .
I do understand the limitations you were facing ... with you higher viewpoint etc , not much you can do to isolate your subject .
Only thing I can see, is the use of a strong radial gradient to get the attention to the bright center where the subject is ... just a thought .
The central placement is not too exciting for my taste .
The image does appear quite dark for a sun lit scene ... I am ok with the overall colors and the sharpness does look good to me.

Falling back to old habits ... color profile is missing !?

Hi Andreas, thanks for commenting, the light was cloudy so there was a little sunshine here or there intermittently. The central placememnt was due to the lenghth of the grasses and I wanted to include the water in the wallow so it would become clear what the stage was doing.
The Color Profile - there is a glitch somewhere in the software on the, website, I reported it a while back, I most definitely did embed a sRGB profile, in fact I have double checked. I think this phenominum has been noted with other posts and not only by me.
I will probably go back to the park sometime this week time permitting ( the large pond we are having excavated is coming to fruition) but we have a problem, there has been so much rain that is half full before we van put the liner in! It is going to be pumped out today but there is more rain to come so it's a bit of a race against time.

Jon i do understand the issue with distracting grasses etc ... as said with the use of a vignette you can guide the viewer to the action instead of having the tone and colors all over the place in the same range . But this is as always a great matter of taste .
Regarding the profile ... luckily I do not have this issue , for me all does work normal as before . Lucky dude I am ... :ROFLMAO:

All the best with the rain , hope it will settle down

Cheers Andreas
