Red Lechwe

From the Okavango Delta last month. This species was the most prevalent of all the wildlife we saw on our trip; even more so than the Impalas. It was amazing to watch them leaping through the shallow Delta waters. Unfortunately I was never quick enough to capture an in-focus shot of that action.

Beautiful image love the colour palette and the pose is pretty much ideal. Importantly you have included a decent base to the image (something I sometimes forget to do!)

Hi Bill, the Delta is a very unique place and for you, a 'birder' it delivers in buckets, but also it homes some animals like the Lechwe which are only to be found here. When you see the herds running through the water, its is a fantastic sight, the place to be is in one of the channels waiting for them to cross, as they often do this in single file and creates a pretty cool sighting.

Colours and tone look about right, personally a tad more sharpening and I'm not sure if there is some masking on the vertical part of the horns, if you have it a sliver more below??? I might have stopped down, but kept the higher SS just in case the male bolted.

hi Bill ... love the super golden light and glad you have the face almost grass stem free .
a bit more below and less above would work better , imho .

The comp works for me as is and the light is beautiful. The eye contact works really well almost making it feel like the subject is staring at the viewer. I do feel the subject could be sharper

Superb light indeed! It's golden, makes the image for me. Lovely colours and tonality.

I too think a tad more sharpening would be good, especially on the face of the subject.

Frame looks good as presented, although on second thought I think I would have tried a more pano crop, worth a try?

Thank you all. Your comments are appreciated, and on the mark. I do agree I would prefer just a tad more below and less above, but this is the way the camera caught it and I wasn't about to try and add canvas. A pano crop would also work. Here's a repost with a bit more sharpening of the face.
