Just a portrait from Bosque Del Apache WR.

A1
200-600mm
1.4 TC
shot at 840mm
1/4000 at f/9
ISO 800

The calling pose is great and the details super, but the shot is lacking punch. The red, in particular, jus seems a bit flat. I might raise the global exposure a bit and see what that does. Also, there is a lot of noise for ISO 800. It's visible on the BG but not on the bird.

Tough to get that close in NM. Working off Dorian's suggestions, I opened up the REDs and the background with the luminance sliders in Color Mixer. Then a small crop from the upper left and I eliminated the large dark area under the bill.

with love, artie

Hi Kurt ... a very good solid portrait of the Crane .
I do like the calling and the mud caked bill .
OP is too dark and Artie´s RP has taken it up a notch .
Why is there so " much " grain at the low ISO in the BG ???!!

I love these types of close up images. The bit of wet mud really adds a lot here - it lets us know it was foraging Artie's repost adds that needed umph. I suppose some NR could be applied to the BG.
