A pair were building a nest at ground level in dense grass, or at least the female was, the male (this bird) strutted around and brought her the occasional snack.

I look at a shot like this and imagine posting to BPN but hear the critique ringing in my ears so generally don't bother.
But here goes, BG too cluttered, head turned away a bit, slightly mottled light on the bird, blacks not blocked but missing detail, pity about the tree stem behind the tail.
These birds are rarely still, and to complicate matters I was shooting across a park road where cars and people were going past.

Hey Colin ... I had giggle about your intro , so true and you're a brave man to still post this . I lift my hat :5
I fully agree with your observations ...
Lovely looking bird which I have seen myself down in OZ many moons ago ....

Nice to see something different from the species perspective

Well done .Like Andreas I had a good laugh at your description which makes a point which needs making .Great bird, hard to get to stand still ,.F10 so all sharp .I think the shadow across the face helps to show the gorgeous variation of light blue through to purple on the V. Wrens which are so aptly named. There's spring in his step. And in your description.

Colin he's a little dandy! A very tricky shot to capture and I suspect not so easy to process. The bird is in it's environment, so I accept that - not too much you can do there. I would suggest two things however that just may elevate the overall presentation. (1) I would lower exposure the branch it is peched on and (2) I would lower the contrast on the bird and lift the darkest elements a fraction. If you don't see any improvement then no big deal - maybe 2 min that could have been spent on a different image:S3:
