One last parrot on millet. Posting mostly for feedback on PP.
Minimally processed, adding some dehaze and fixed color temperature.
Wish I knew how to blend in the white/light area above the bird.

ACR + PS.

Canon R5, 600f4, 1.4x, tripod
1/800, f7.1, ISO 3200

Thanks for all the help.
Reposts and feedback welcomed.

A super image I like the pose, I feel there is slightly obscured detail to be exploited by using curves and I personally don't mind the background but I have modifies very quickly using Frequency Separation cloning (in the Tony Kuyper panel available as a download. An even quicker way woud have been to create a new laye, mask it then make a mask of the subject , then invert the mask so the background becomes available and then clone around at say 40% opacity. There are other ways of course but this is quick. I have attached an image for your consideration - hope that's ok by you.

A really nice image! great color and behavior. And I am right there in not knowing ow to blend out or soften the white area you describe. Jonathan did
a great job with the challenge!

Hi Sid, it's not as 'pin sharp' as your previous posting and I would have liked a bit more DoF ie f/9, just bump the ISO. Overall it missing the greyscale transition (black to white) in it's tonal range, it seems to go from 0-65% in the scale, so there isn't that 100% of black somewhere to bring that contrast, adding 'bite' to the image. Its as if you backed off the Blacks????

Personally I would loose the leaf, it doesn't bring much to the table and bring the crop up a bit more. Have you considered a bit more on the LHS as it's a little tight, but I quite like that splash of orange, however I would bring it in as a blend and feather it in line, diagonally with the perch.

Apologies for the delayed response. I was traveling without connectivity last few days.
Love the repost, Jon. Thanks for posting it.

Will try the layer mask technique. You've done a great job blending the blob in.

Hi Steve, the RAW looked razor sharp, could be my processing.
I didn't intentionally mess with the blacks at all.
This image was ETTR -- if anything I had to reduce highlights and exposure. Other than that I just did dehaze and color temp/sat adjustment.

You're right -- in hindsight, I should've have upped the DoF and even the SS.
Am learning to get more comfy with ISO.

But don't think I have the PP skills yet to go up to 12800. Took a shot today at 10K and 12.8K just for grins. Gotta see how those images processes. Will keep you posted.

Hi Sid, your Raws are fine and if you need to drop the exposure, no problem, just because you took it at that exposure setting, most of the time it needs adjusting ie to darken parts.
If I was a betting man I would say your monitor screen is too bright, in a brightly lit room like an office then 120 candelas would be about right, but between 100-120 is probably about right for most folk. I have no idea if you can reduce the brightness, or what its currently set too, but if you can find out, then amend it and recalibrate the monitor hopefully the files won't look/appear bright/thin.

1/1600-1/2000 f/9 Auto ISO expose ETTR the noise would be minimal and if its well exposed NR is so easy. You want a fast enough SS to freeze the subject and to avoid pixel shift with cameras like the R5, but once you get used to it in all light conditions you know the boundaries

Never fear ISO, the only thing you do need to remember is the higher the ISO, the more you loose in Dynamic range.

I like the leaf and wish you had the whole thing. Though very beautiful, the bird looks just a bit foggy to my old eyes. Perhaps a touch of Dehaze during the conversion?

with love, artie
