Well, not really. This guy approached in a way that suggested he wanted a handout...with all the camp sites in Algonquin Park there is a good chance he was habituated to humans. Still, he was a great subject to photograph with great close-ups - and just to remind us it was a wild animal, he just as soon disappeared for good by trotting quickly back into the forest.

Canon 40D + 100-400L @400mm, aperture priority, evaluative metering, 1/400s., f/6.3, ISO 500, +1.3 EC, natural light, handheld, cropped a bit at left (about 85% full-frame).

Beautiful image, really sharp compared to my old 100-400, probably results from good technique.

Excellent feel Daniel !! I like the selected crop with the space to the right !! ... btw I use my 100-400 and love it It is sharp and have no focusing problems even when going after purple martins !!

... Ken I think the first few years it did have a bad reputation and there were soft copies out there. Imagine that lens should be up for an update soon !!

Hey thanks guys!

Re: flipping the image. I could see how it could work for some. For me though, having seen this scene develop with my own eyes, it just feels "weird" to see it the other way around:)

Ken: I'm sure good technique has something to do with it, but as Al says, likely newer versions are better performers than the first ones to come out...I know I love it to death!

Very nice Daniel,

I know exactly what you mean when you flip an image that you captured originally the other way around. It just doesn't sit right somehow.

I like it as presented and I like that there is some detail in the foreground snow. The subject is excellent.
