This was taken in my yard as the woodpecker landed on some entwined bittersweet (invasive), from my kitchen window (portable blind!) It has been dark skies for an extended period of time and i am shooting at high ISO's 1600 here, slower shutter speeds and looser apertures than i prefer but prioritizing noise... Very flat light, some secondary feather motion, some noise, and the trailing oof upper twine isn't ideal, but it is what i had. Hope you like this sparky handsome male! Someone send some good light please!

Nothing cloned, cropped.

Beautiful pose with perfectly raised crest! Engaging look and facial details are great - soft light helped you there! Wish you'd been at f/8, but you were up against the shutter and ISO already.

Another Canon defector, sigh.......

Tough self critique aside(as expected from you), you have a beautiful canvas here. Love the raised crest, look back, SH right where it needs to be, perch, BG and composition. Besides, it's my favorite woody...

ps
Wait, what... I thought with Nikon you could go to 10x that ISO with no fear of noise whatsoever...:w3

Seriously, looking forward to the magic you will create with the new rig.

Lovely! The Nikon is doing good things for you!
Enjoy the new gear! And sending a few prayers your way for some sun.
Love the perch, raised crest and IQ,
Gail

Nice to see the downy on a perch instead of a tree trunk. The background is great. Like the raised feathers on the head.
