Shot last evening. They are not being so shy this spring.

50D, 500mm + 1.4 TC, f/9, 1/1600, ISO 800, some cropping.

Comments very welcomed!

Good light, detail and colours, and I like the droplets on his head and neck. I feel his body should be a tad darker, as it seems to get lost against the edge of the frame. Im sure it is the correct colour.

I'm fine with the whites. I would however like to see a bit more of the bottom of the bird. Noise doesn't look bad, but I probably would have used a larger aperture and dropped the ISO. I might selectively sharpen the eye a little.

Gary:

They seem like they aren't so shy this spring because you have a lot more reach!!

The body exposure looks pretty accurate to me, but because of the grey background on the site, it does tend to fade into the light grey. This is a time when a frame around the image would probably help. I would be tempted to try a modest black one.

Agree with Doug about a bit of change in crop (less cropping).

Noise seems acceptable on my monitor, but I am at work.

Touch up the eye( sharpen) and loosen up the crop if you can, its a winner. Like the drops.

Cheers

Randy

Thank you all! Having too much fun with my 500 mm! Reworked the eye, added the frame Randy and gave it as much of the bird that was in the shot. Thanks again for the comments!
