Hi Jon - Nice simple portrait. It looks a little flat to me. I took it into PS and applied a simple linear curves adjustment and think it takes it up a notch. Question: How far away from the pronghorn were you? I can understand f13 if you were close but usually these guys are a bit skittish and keep their distance.

TFS,
Rachel

Hi Jonathan -- This is a very nice and simple frame. Yes , looks slightly flat but one thing that i would like to change is getting the crop move downwards by having less space at the top and some more in the FG .

TFS !

Greetings Jon, I like the posture and HA he, especially with the catchlight in the eye. The cropping I too feel is a bit off, with too much dead space above, I think you could have frame things better with the 100-400. Good detail, sharpness & clarity, but also question f/13, but it worked, however personally a bit more SS with that ISO.

Pronghorn edit

Thanks for your comments everyone, here is a repost based upon them....any better??
I used the settings, if I am honest to provoke a comment once posted! I figured 1/800 was enough and as the back ground was distant it would be well OOF. My other thought was there would be enough DOF head to toe.
I can't exactly how far away but I would guess 40-50 feet say 12-15m. Struggling to find the distance on the EXIF I am sure it is there somewhere.

Jon - RP looks better but maybe a bit too far particularly on the blacks and midtones. At that distance your dof would have been between about 1.05 meters and 1.65 meters depending on actual distance. So presumably if the pronghorn was standing facing you, perpendicular to the sensor rather than parallel the entire animal would be in focus.:S3:

Hi Jon besides the crop , i like the image for the same reasons that Steve mentioned .
I think you can afford to push the histogram fully to the RHS without loosing detail in the whites , i agree with others that you can get a bit more punch into the image from the tonal POV .
I would exclude the dark tones from that punch ....and the FG/BG at a lower %.
Your RP is a bit overdone from my POV .

Jon - In Bridge, under "Edit" go to "Preferences" and then "Metadata." Under EXIF make sure "Subject Distance" is checked.
